One thing I love as much as books, is being able to share my love of books with other people. I am also really lucky to have some beautiful book geeks (yes, we're books geeks and we rock!) in my family. It's great being able to share my passion with someone close by who doesn't think I'm totally insane when I buy 10 new books when I've already got 100 unread on my shelf! But I decided that I didn't want to keep this little treasure to myself... so after a little convincing, my gorgeous sister-in-law, Jeanette, offered to write a review on a book she had read that was on my TBR list. Every little helps!;
I actually grew up with Jeanette in South Africa; we have countless pictures of us together as tiny little tots. Now she's married to my brother and I couldn't be happier to have her as a sister and a friend. Although I think she deserves a medal! I'm allowed to say that because he's my brother - anybody else would have to come through me first :p
Anyway, let's find out a little about the book first!
About the book:
Published: Aug 2016
HarperCollins Children Books
Flawed is Cecilia Ahern's debut YA novel.
Celestine North lives a perfect life. She’s a model daughter and sister, she’s well-liked by her classmates and teachers, and she’s dating the impossibly charming Art Crevan.
But then Celestine encounters a situation in which she makes an instinctive decision. She breaks a rule and now faces life-changing repercussions. She could be imprisoned. She could be branded. She could be found FLAWED.
In this stunning novel, bestselling author Cecelia Ahern depicts a society in which perfection is paramount and mistakes are punished. And where one young woman decides to take a stand that could cost her everything.
Jeanette's Review:
Flawed was no different. Although, it seems to be a little different to her usual writing style and is her first foray into Young Adult writing, I was drawn in by the first few paragraphs. Thumbs up for this as I was a little apprehensive about the change.
In many ways I feel I can identify with Celestine in her pursuit for perfection, only for different reasons. A simple, logical, human act changed this young woman's life forever. I can't fathom living in a world where being compassionate and demonstrating kindness to another could mean punishment and humiliation so severe. And yet, putting myself in her shoes I'm afraid to say I'm not sure if I - the ultimate rule follower - could be brave enough to go against the constraints set by a society like that in the novel.
I certainly wasn't pleased to be left hanging at the end - desperate to know how the story ends. It left me contemplating how much impact, how much change, can one person make? To my relief the sequel, Perfect, was in my online basket and on its way to my doorstep almost immediately. Hopefully, I'll find the answers I'm looking for once I've cracked the spine of the next book.

Thank you so much to Jeanette for sharing her thoughts about Flawed with us - I, for one, found her review so insightful and intriguing. It makes we want to go straight to the bookstore to get a copy! I love the questions the book raises about people and society and I can't wait to get my teeth stuck into it (not literally of course!).
