"The secret to getting ahead is getting started" - Mark Twain
It was definitely time to take the advice of Mark Twain. There is only so long you can sit dreaming about what mark you want to be making on the world before you actually need to take the steps to make it happen... presenting: A Novel Thought.
Books have always been a really important part of my life. I owe a lot of this to my beautiful mum who would take me to the library regularly when I was a little girl. I remember it like it was just the other day; the eerie silence as you book in at the desk, the little coloured wooden book marks to mark a books place on the bookshelf - and yes, picking the colour of the book mark was an extremely important decision to make! - and of course, the romantic smell of old books lining the bookcases. I can still feel the excitement at being unleashed on the bookcases to to choose my 5 books for that week - my weakness being the Sweet Valley High series.
It was then a completely natural step for me to complete my BA Honours degree in English and American literature, combining my education with my passion. I graduated in 2008 and I can honestly say that I miss my course. I loved the wide range of genres and authors we were introduced to, and it was a pleasure being taught by tutors who were so enthusiastic about the subjects.
I aspire to be a writer, although the initial thought of starting a novel can be quite daunting to a new writer. The first stage in realising my dream is creating 'A Novel Thought', where I plan to share my thoughts and opinions on all things literary; from book reviews and interviews, to all the random thoughts about books and writing that float around in my head.
For now I must get back to reading 'I heart Vegas' by Lindsey Kelk... the book and a cup of tea are calling me.
